Aventurine is a translucent quartz with a myriad of small flakey inclusions that create "aventurescence," which is the sparkling effect that the eye sees. This gemstone most commonly occurs in green but can also be found in red, orange, yellow, blue, pink, purple, brown and white. Its hardness is 7, but the inclusions generally have hardness less than 7, weakening the stone. India and Brazil are leading producers of aventurine.
