Mosasaurs lived in prehistoric oceans from about 80 million years ago up until the mass extinction of the Cretaceous 66 million years ago. There are over 50 species of this extinct reptile ranging in size from a small porpoise to the giant Tylosaurus measuring over 45-feet long. Mosasaurs had stream-lined bodies, a large skull with a long snout, two flippers and a downturned elongated tail.
