A mini mortar and pestle made of 360 million year old fossils to grind tiny spices...what everyone needs!
Orthoceras are nautiloid with straight shells from the Ordovician Period that was roughly 400 million years ago. Ortho means "straight" and ceras means "horn" as their shells were long and conical. They are related to present-day squids and could be as small as just a few inches or as large as 6 feet.
Orthoceras' bodies lived in the larger, open end of the shell using their tentacles to propel them through the ocean and to grab food. The nautiloid moved by forcing water out from its shell, which simultaneously created an air pocket providing buoyancy.
