Sunstone is a feldspar that produces flashes of light due to mineral inclusions of copper, goethite or hematite--an optical phenomenon known as aventurescence. When the stone is tilted and moved under light, the bright metallic flashes can be seen. Sunstone occurs in colors ranging from reds to yellows and owes much of its fiery color to the copper includes. It has a hardness of 6 on the Moh's hardness scale with perfect cleavage making it a great mineral to use for jewelry. Sunstone can be found in many countries around the world: China, Australia, India, Norway, Russia, Sri Lanka, United States and Canada.
