Ammonites are squid-like prehistoric creatures that swam the oceans in a coiled shell. The shells of ammonites are naturally occurring examples of the mathematical Fibonacci sequence, or Golden Ratio. Their shape forms an aesthetically pleasing spiral that is also found in pine cones, on petals of a flower, and in spiral galaxies like our Milky Way.
