Trilobite tracks are also known as Diplichnites or Cruziana and are ancient arthropod trackways.
These trace fossil trackways are preserved along bedding planes of the Rochester Shale Formation of Middleport, New York--home to thousands of trilobite fossils and ichnofossils.
Trackways can provide adequate information to the type of animal that has produced them and the number of animals. Oftentimes there is a "resting trace" called Rusophycus where the animal started or ended its path leaving a rough outline of its body with the potential to see the number of legs.
Diplichnites may have been the fossilized undertracks that pushed its way deeper into the sediment whereas Protichnites would be the upper preserved layer impression of a dragging tail.
